How did you get the job as a host on "Unang Hirit"? Did you audition for it?
I was asked to join the show when it was still called "Mornings @ GMA." I couldn't join because I was busy then. I'm not sure if I was already hosting on "Eat Bulaga."
After a few months, they (management) called us about "Unang Hirit." We discussed the format and I liked it. My dream is to have a job in newscasting or something close to that. I guess "Unang Hirit" fulfills it.
What about your stint on the sitcom "1 For 3"?
I was doing "Eat Bulaga" already when I was offered a role on "1 For 3." I guess I got lucky because I was only supposed to be on that show for a month but they kept on extending the role. Siguro tumagal din ako ng six months doon.
All your hobbies are self-taught?
Yes, I didn't have professional training. I used to sketch a lot, portraiture, but I stopped for a year and when I tried to sketch again, medyo rusty na.
I had a trainer for tennis. Funny nga when he was training me, I almost passed out one morning on the tennis court because I didn't eat breakfast. Hindi pala puwede 'yon, I usually have a mug of chocolate lang in the morning.
I want to learn how to cook someday. I experiment now but I don't think I can classify that as cooking.
What do you like about your stint on "Eat Bulaga"?
It was fun, it didn't feel like work. Kapag pumasok ka doon before 12 noon, parang magla-lunch lang ako kasama ng mga kaibigan. I stayed there for over a year. It's almost the same as working on "Unang Hirit" because there's camaraderie.
Among the movies you've done, which one is your favorite?
It's "Rizal." I had fun with my part--Leonor Rivera. Cesar (Montano) was very nice to me. I also loved working with our director, Marilou Diaz-Abaya. I take pride in the fact that she also came from Assumption College.
I was in awe while I was working with her. Magaang siya katrabaho and she really wants to bring out the best in you. It was a new experience for me because I was playing a role that required me to go back in time.
Future plans in your career or personal life?
I want to stick to hosting so I can save money. It's fulfilling when you know that you're doing something with your life. Eventually, I want to go into business. Before I was thinking about going into the food business but now I'm having more ideas. I want something to do after I stop hosting.
Of course I also want to have a family someday.
What qualities are you looking for in a future husband?
He has to be a gentleman. Natu-turn off ako kapag kiss and tell. I want someone who will open doors for me and send me flowers. I appreciate those things. I'm conservative in that sense. I also want someone who's funny. At ako lang dapat yung mamahalin niya forever.
Bloopers on "Unang Hirit"?
Marami pero mababaw lang. Sometimes I pronounce the p with an f and vice versa.
What sort of show would you like to do someday?
I want something like "Oprah." I used to do a show on Channel 4 called "Business and Leisure," I also want something like that. I handled the leisure segment and someone else hosted the business segment. I want to do a show that will feature different places. I want to contribute my own ideas.
Who are your idols when it comes to hosting?
I really admire Oprah. She's very factual when she talks and yet she has charisma with her audience. I want to inform and touch my audience at the same time.
