He dances his way to fame
One of the hardest tribulations comedian-TV host Archie Alemania has faced in life was during college when he blew his education out of the window because of his irresponsibility!
Taking up summer during his senior year so he could graduate, he tried to forge his grades in his summer classes. His school eventually found out and instead of finally graduating with a Mass Communications degree from the University of Santo Tomas, his whole senior year was voided!
He remember how much tainted his academic life was then that he couldn’t get into other colleges or universities even if he wanted to. He was also deeply embarrassed. He has brought shame to his family."I really felt bad and it was a heavy burden to carry. I let down my parents and their expectations of me," he intimated in Filipino.
Archie may not have been a good student, but he was surely a good dancer. As one of the members of the dance groups Big Men and Big Brothers, he had exposures in various TV shows and concerts. He was dancing since 1998 and has enjoyed working with big named celebrities.
Being a back-up dancer may have its rewards but Archie felt that the fulfillment he gets from dancing was not enough anymore. He realized he needed more work so he could sustain himself and help his family.
"I auditioned for TV commercials. I went to VTRs and I was lucky I was cast. My biggest break was in the Chippy commercial. I was the guy who was crying because a woman broke my heart," he smiled.
His Chippy exposure spawned good breaks for Archie as he was tapped by GMA-7 to do the role of Jolo Revilla’s brother and Bearwin Meily’s in the youth oriented program "Click." He played a dancer and ‘barkada’ of Dingdong Dantes in the action-drama series "Twin Hearts."
Then he found himself in ABS- CBN.
In ABS-CBN, his comedic talent was his key to land a job in "Wazzup Wazzup" as one of the ‘tadjocks’ specializing in the segment "Reklamador." He was also cast in Studio 23’s "Breakfast" and "Digital Tour."
"I was using my own voice before but it was plain and boring. I found it dry so I need to improve it so I could make a mark with our TV audiences. So I delivered the news ala Mike Enriquez. I tried to copy him in "Reklamador" until I evolved to my own style!
From Studio 23, the talented Archie Alemania was asked by "Masayang Tanghali Bayan" to host a special segment for their sponsor Alaxan. He was so effective and animated in his part time job that the producers of "MTB" asked him to audition. Luckily, as he described it, he passed and became one of the show’s hosts.
Archie says he draws inspiration from the likes of Willie Revillame and Joey de Leon. He finds their humor very interesting and effective. One of his goals in showbiz right now is to find his own niche and style that will really make his comedic style standout. He also attributes his humor to where he grew-up — Sampaloc, Manila. He describes himself as ‘laking kanto’ and that his humor was innate because of his childhood.
"In my barkada, I’m really funny. But people I just met or during serious matters like press conferences, I may not be that funny to some," he declared.
Unfortunately, his latest show "MTB" would be ending its run this Saturday due to the network’s new programming block. "I was saddened when I heard about it. But I will stick to whatever management decides on. I’m very blessed that they gave me a chance to work in ‘MTB.’ It was more than I expected in my career."
To all who have been asking who the special person in Mickey Ferriols’ life is, it’s none other than Archie. "I already had a crush on her when I was still with the other station. She looks very sophisticated. She’s really beautiful and it was only after we did a show at Klownz that I started talking to her," shared Archie.
Archie says Mickey noticed him because of his sense of humor.
Onwards to their fifth month as a couple, Archie said that part of their bond was knowing about their past relationships. He could not remember how their no-holds-barred conversation came about but he was happy it happened.
"Even when sometimes it was painful learning about these things, we just had to talk about it. I know now how she was before with her past relationships. But she assured me she has changed. I believe her."
Mickey is the woman he would like to marry. He feels he is ready but would rather work harder to be more financially stable for his and his future wife’s future. He also admitted that Mickey added ins-piration in his life. "I’m now more serious about my career. Before, I was a happy-go-lucky person. Now I’m thinking of putting out a business someday for my future."
Barely a year in the business, he has learned that showbiz is a harsh world. He is referring to articles that were falsely written about him. When he and Mickey became an item, he said that speculations were published about the real score between them. Some went to the extent of saying that their relationship was only a gimmick. They went on by saying that once "MTB" goes off the air for good, Archie and Mickey will also be over!
"Well, everyone is entitled to his own opinion. I guess it is part of their job," he expressed.
As far as he is concerned, after "MTB" they will still be together. In fact they are planning an out of town date on Valentine’s Day. They might fly to Boracay or Hong Kong![/color]
"MTB" might be over soon, but Archie’s career is still flourishing. In place of "MTB" is a new show he will co-host with Marvin Agustin, JC Cuadrado and Bianca Gonzales. Called "Star Dance," it is a show up his alley. "I’m excited to be in this show," he remarked. "I’m proud to announce too that ‘Wazzup Wazzup’ is in its 4th Season already!"
His goal this year in showbiz is simple — to focus more on his hosting job and excel in it.
"I’m very much contented and I couldn’t ask for more. I know I just have to slow down a bit so I won’t get burned out. Another thing is that I truly hope my parents are prouder of me now. I know they saw how determined I was to get a good job. But I still have to buy them a house. When that happens, that’s when I can say I’ve succeeded."
